On a less festive note.... I had a pretty bad accident yesterday and cut my hand in 2 places. I'll spare everyone the grossness and just say ... beware of hand blenders. I spent most of yesterday in the emergency room which is always a treat. When all this business heals I'll be fine but the really truly disappointing part of the whole thing is that for the next 2 weeks my hand will be in a cast and I do not have very good use of it which means that I probably won't have anything in my shop until after Christmas. The horror. I will still make a few attempts at sewing and possibly enlist some help. The most irritating part of this whole incident is that since my arrival back in NY about 10 days ago, I completely focused on setting up a makeshift studio while the rest of my things are being shipped via cargo container from Germany. I bought everything, a work table, sewing machine, serger and fabric. The Crosby Dress pieces have already been cut out and my new sewing machine arrived yesterday while I was in the hospital. The moral of the story is a) stay away from hand blenders and b) my shop update while happen later that I want it to but fashion is pain so maybe I will master sewing with one hand after all . Sowy ....
Left: My mangled left hand, Right: My new sewing machine.

Left: Don't I look totally thrilled for some reason? ... while waiting for the hand surgeon to arrive. My husband, who bought and iPhone about 5 minutes after we landed in NYC was good enough to document my little "incident" very throughly. He may have been live blogging it on his own blog. Why I am laughing? Obviously I am very excited about that awesome blue gown, total fierceness.
Right: The hand surgeon who is sort of the bomb and sewed up all that nasty stuff and reassembled my hand.

Feel better,

Oh, so sad!!! I'm really sorry!
"Sort of the bomb" means the surgeon was handsome?? In that case...I noticed there are not so many handsome MD here!!
Other than that, The Sun Jar is one of my long time favorites :-)
Get well soon!!
so sorry about your hand!
I've only discovered your work on flickr this week, and I find it very beautiful and inspiring. I look forward to seeing more, hope you get well soon! Best wishes from London,
C.
oh my god, OUCH! Hope your hubby will also document him making you lots of cups of tea and buying you chocolate bars for your recuperation. x
Oh no! What is it with hand injuries these days? I had a friend visit me in Berlin two weeks ago and the same thing happened to her...so similar adventure, but in German. Hope you recover ok!
That. Is. So. Scray! It must be very painful. You are such a brave person! I hope your hand heals soon, and heals well. You take care of your hand, please, and don't worry too much about anything else.

That's awful! Maybe you can get your husband to set up your shop the way you want and then pay some fashion design student to sew for you?
In the meantime, enjoy the painkillers!

Oh my goodness -- I hope your hand heals quickly and painlessly!
Well, on the plus side of your shop being restocked after Christmas -- I'll have money then to actually buy something :) Hopefully I'll make it to etsy before everything sells out!
Oh No! Take it easy and get well soon!
p.s. love the feather necklace!
I always KNEW there was a valid reason for my fear of blenders.
I'm so sorry to hear about your hand - i hope it heals lickety-split!
oh no! sorry about your poor hand, get well soon! :)
how awful! i recently had a little accident too. was cutting cloth and over-estimated the distance of my hand to the cloth. now i have a triangle shaped cut on my ring finger. you have to give the scissors credit. it's that sharp.
but then, it is nothing at all to the extent of yours! and at the holiday season too!
it's funny. in one post of yours, i was able to learn so much about you!
mcgoolipants! its funny how you laugh when the worst things happen to you! dare i remind you of our "faces of death" experience when we laughed through the horrible images! so i know that expression means you had the daylights scared out of you. you are so adorable and i hope you heal up quickly. good thing you had a plastic surgeon to sew you up!
OMGGGG how horrible! I'm sooo sorry. Hope ur better soon!
Tart
