Helmut Lang Spring Summer 2013: Life Beneath the Sea

This season references life beneath the sea inspired by translucent colored crustaceans. Fresh fabric developments and sheer overlapping panels lend themselves to a clean and crisp silhouette for spring. Laminated silk, glossy linen twills, and sheer glare film are shown with bonded reversible leathers in dual colors. Liquid canvas and slick silk lend a shiny “wet” look and to further convey the underwater theme, chintz finish is applied to many fabrics for a polished shine. The collection presents contrasting, boyish fits such as slouchy pants with low pockets paired with fitted leather jackets and boxy outerwear juxtaposed with cropped A-line skirts and full shorts.
Always my favorite press day appointment... the pieces were even more impressive in person with many of them assembled from a variety of newly developed fabrics that almost glistened. One of my absolute favorites was their new stretch leather leggings in black & white stingray, along with a matching jacket. Nobody makes a better leather pant better than Helmut Lang.
